Fashion & Psychology : what your fashion choices say about you

One of the first things people assume when I tell them I am a personal stylist is I give full on makeovers to my clients and make them look ready for a fashion event. Don't get me wrong, I love doing that if that's what they want, but being a personal stylist and image consultant means making you look like your true self, teaching you how to express yourself through your wardrobe and adapt your style to what you intend to communicate.

The type of clothes you wear and the kinds of accessories you use to either dress them up or tone them down, says a lot about who you are, where you’re from, what you do and how you feel about yourself and others.
Style can communicate your field of work, your social position, how influent you can be and sometimes even give an idea of your income. You see, writers, costume designers and directors use fashion all the time to show clues about a character.

What signals are you sending?

As an image consultant for NSP- Image Consultant, I offer a 30 mins Free Consultation before you decide which service is more suitable for your needs. In this first session we'll map down how you think you look like, how you wish to look like, what do you use your style for and what makes you happy about your wardrobe.

Understanding what you want to communicate is the first step to represent yourself!
Ask yourself what your current wardrobe makes you feel, and then compare it to what you wished it made you feel. Write down all emotions you feel while wearing your clothes, then narrow them down into 3words. That's where you get the first impression you give, and that's where you start from to change it to what you actually want to communicate.

So how can you get closer to your ideal first impression?

Here are some of the best tricks to convey your message through fashion:

Colour Psychology

How you use colours is a great way to harness the power of fashion in your first impression. Don’t pick out colours randomly, understand what you want to say and select the right colour combo to do just that (don't forget to check the right shade in your Colour Palette and opt for that).

The Right Fit

How you tailor your clothes on your body and the shape and fabrics you use, affect how people perceive you. Use your Personal Body Shape Analysis to make sure you dress your features correctly to always look 'complemented'.

Accessories

Accessories  can really make the look. Both for men and women, they can elevate any outfit with just the right proportions. From shoes, to watches, to scarves, to hats, these are easy ways to change the impression of your style and communicate what you want people to think.

There are infinite ways to express yourself through style and i look forward to you joining me on this journey.
